The RacksBrax idea was a light bulb moment on a sunny afternoon at the beach about 12 months ago. Our engineer was relaxing in the shade, mulling over the impracticality of the fixed and rapidly deteriorating awning on his Prado.
The nuisance of having to pull out tools, undo everything, and store them away in the garage—risking losing bits and pieces in the process—was simply too big a hassle.
As a regular 4WDing family, the awning would be used in the next few weeks anyway… so it was just easier to leave it on. This meant the awning was permanently exposed to the elements, chewing extra fuel every time he hit the road.
Our engineer realised he could simply fix one part of a hitch to his roof rack and the other to his awning so he would be able to quickly add or remove the awning.
The thought of no more awnings burning up in the sun, getting drenched in the rain, or dragging on fuel consumption sent him to the drawing board to sketch up some ideas.
